Jennifer Fahey - Glitter Pods

‘Re play’ – Is a visual documentation of Melanie Ihnen and Jennifer Fahey enjoying the process of crafting and playing in the jewellery studio.

Over a 2 month period they will share via video and images the crafting of a new piece, or small series of handmade jewels.

Follow the process via social media and then view these finished works in their showcase exhibition. The exhibition is part of the official Sydney Craft Week program.

Melanie Ihnen - I’ve always been inspired by the outcomes achieved in my practice when I allow myself the freedom and time to play. Time without overthinking and having specific outcomes.

I especially enjoy the making one off pieces. Creating and working with the shapes and forms of the materials on hand, the offcuts and components discarded from previous ideas and projects. The opportunity to minimise the need to purchase new materials and to recycle and reuse what I already have. Crafting for the sake of crafting.

Jennifer Fahey – Like many craftspeople, I have an eclectic range of objects that I imagine could become jewellery. The theme of Sydney Craft Week ‘play’ provides the perfect opportunity to rediscover these items. I am inspired by the thought of having fun with them and seeing what eventuates.

'Landlines'- Melinda Young Jewellery and vessels

October 1 - 13

Celebration Drinks - October 11 -6-8pm

Landlines is an exhibition of contemporary jewellery and small woven vessels by Melinda Young. The work in the exhibition is a response to the colour and texture of the landscape of Broken Hill and the APY Lands, the coastline of Arnhem Land and the Illawarra Escarpment, all areas where Young has lived and worked over the past few years.  This is work that is made whilst travelling across and on the land, using deliberately portable, yet labour-intensive and meditative processes of making. Coil weaving for the vessels, hand-coloured and rolled metal beads threaded onto hand-spun linen cord for the jewellery. The Landlines series pays homage to these places as a series of wearable landscapes and intimate vessels, inspired by the particular patina of the land and sea.

'Preview'

Works on view Thursday 12th October 6 – 8pm and – Friday 13th October 10am – 5pm

‘PREVIEW’ evening drinks - Thursday 12th October – 6pm – 8pm

Held as part of the inaugural Sydney Craft Week program, ‘Preview’ is a presentation of new contemporary jewellery collections by Studio 20/17 Atelier founder Melanie Ihnen and gallery artists Jennifer Fahey and Stephanie Said.

Melanie Ihnen’s new works pay homage to her signature minimalist aesthetic and mixed metals technique. The subtle variations in silver, gold and grey tones are complemented by the finest precious and semi-precious gems.

Jennifer Fahey’s new range expands on her successful series of 3d printed nylon combining precious metals with colourful semi-precious gems further exploring the elegant repetitions that give her work its sinuous style.

Stephanie Said’s work uses the core element of the hinge allowing pieces to shift, fold and evolve, creating sound and reflecting light. Stephanie will be presenting her latest collection of infinity folding rings which can be worn over the knuckle or closed, revealing or concealing hidden diamond pattern variations
